A WhatsApp Button Is the Shortest Path From Product Page to Conversation
Most Shopify stores lose the shopper who has one question before they buy. They will not fill in a contact form and they will not wait for an email reply, but they will tap a WhatsApp button, because it opens an app they already have open. Adding that button is one of the cheapest conversion changes you can make.
This guide covers three ways to do it, in order of effort: a plain link in your theme, a click-to-chat link with a pre-filled message you can put anywhere, and a floating chat widget that connects to a shared team inbox. Pick the one that matches how much of the conversation you want to manage.
Option 1: A WhatsApp Link Button in Your Theme
The fastest method uses nothing but your theme editor and a wa.me link. It works on any Shopify plan and takes about two minutes.
The link format is https://wa.me/<number>, where the number is your full number in international format with no plus sign, spaces or dashes. A Pakistani number would look like https://wa.me/923001234567.
- In the Shopify admin, open Online Store, then Themes, then Customize.
- Choose the template where you want the button, for example the product page, and add a Button block or a Custom Liquid block.
- Set the button link to your wa.me URL and the label to something like "Ask on WhatsApp".
- Save, then test the button on your phone to confirm it opens a chat with your business number.
Option 2: A Click-to-Chat Link With a Pre-Filled Message
The same wa.me link accepts a text parameter that fills in the customer's first message for them. It removes the blank-message hesitation and tells you where the chat came from.
The format is https://wa.me/923001234567?text=Hi%2C%20I%20have%20a%20question. The text after text= is URL-encoded, so a space becomes %20 and a comma becomes %2C.
You can drop this link in the header, the footer, the cart page, email footers and your Instagram bio. Because the opening message is consistent, you can read intent at a glance before you even open the chat.
- Product enquiries: pre-fill "Hi, I have a question about
" using your theme's product object. - Order support: link to it from the order status page and pre-fill "Hi, I need help with my order".
- Wholesale or B2B: a footer link that pre-fills "Hi, I'd like to open a wholesale account".
Option 3: A Floating Widget Wired Into a Shared Inbox
A link is a one-way handoff. Once volume grows, or more than one person needs to answer, you want the conversation to arrive somewhere your team can see it, assign it and reply from together.
Texnity adds a floating WhatsApp widget to your store that does exactly that. The button sits in the corner of every page, and every chat it starts lands in a shared team inbox where any agent can pick it up, leave an internal note, or hand it over.
This is the option to choose if WhatsApp is going to be a real support and sales channel rather than a side inbox.
- One WhatsApp number for the whole team, with separate logins instead of a shared phone.
- New chats can be tagged and routed automatically, so order questions and wholesale enquiries reach different people.
- An AI Agent can answer common questions instantly and hand over to a person with the full history attached.
- It runs on the official WhatsApp Business API, so you also get message templates, delivery reports and a proper opt-out flow.
Which One Should You Use?
If you are the only person answering and you get a handful of messages a day, the plain theme link is enough. Add the pre-filled text as soon as you want to know what people are asking before you open the chat.
Move to the widget and a shared inbox when any of these becomes true: a second person needs to reply, you are missing messages, you want to send order updates automatically, or you need the green tick and official sender status. At that point a personal WhatsApp account is working against you.
Setting It Up With Texnity
Texnity is an official WhatsApp Business API provider and a Meta Business Partner. The Shopify integration connects in a couple of clicks, adds the widget, and starts firing order notifications, abandoned cart reminders and COD confirmations from your store's own events.
If you are in Pakistan, the WhatsApp Business API in Pakistan page covers pricing, the green tick and local setup. Otherwise, start a free trial and add the button from the integration screen.
